American College of Surgeons Calls Obama Out On Yet Another Lie

Posted: 13 Aug 2009 06:00 AM PDTObama speaks a time or two and decides to throw out information that is completely false and the relevant parties are calling him out on his lies, although they are being polite and and giving him the benefit of the doubt by stating they assume he is making these "mistakes unintentionally."

Yesterday it was Obama's claim that AARP endored Obamacare, to which AARP made it clear they had not and he was "inaccurate."

Today, Via The Atlantic, we see another group, the American College of Surgeons, has issued their own press release, to correct Barack Obama's misstatements:

"President Obama’s unfortunate remarks during his July 22 press conference in which he suggested that a physician’s decision to remove a child’s tonsils – or any other procedure – is based on making “a lot more money,” was ill-informed and dangerous. We were dismayed at this characterization."

That quote was from the press release and The Atlantic has more on the specifics of Obama's incorrect information.

-- Yesterday during a town hall meeting, President Obama got his facts
completely wrong. He stated that a surgeon gets paid $50,000 for a leg
amputation when, in fact, Medicare pays a surgeon between $740 and
$1,140 for a leg amputation. This payment also includes the
evaluation of the patient on the day of the operation plus patient
follow-up care that is provided for 90 days after the operation.
Private insurers pay some variation of the Medicare reimbursement for
this service.

-- Three weeks ago, the President suggested that a surgeon's decision to
remove a child's tonsils is based on the desire to make a lot of
money. That remark was ill-informed and dangerous, and we were
dismayed by this characterization of the work surgeons do. Surgeons
make decisions about recommending operations based on what's right for
the patient.

No one expects the president to know the exact cost of a specific surgery, but if he is going to claim he does, the least he can do is get the facts straight and not come out and start pulling numbers out of his ass.

Hot Air points out, "This is now the second time in three weeks that a doctors’ association has had to correct him publicly over a bit of cheap demagoguery aimed at scaring people into swallowing his plan. Or, rather, the third time:"

He wants to fight against the majority of Americans to push his Obamacare down their throats, he should at least have the decency to use true numbers, not lie through his teeth.
